Just over a year ago I wrote my first blog from the 32nd ICPE meeting in Dublin. Now I am sitting in Montreal about to leave for the Welcome Reception and Academic Showcase of the 33rd ICPE conference.

I have been fortunate to spend today wondering around the old city, enjoying the architecture and the food. The Notre Dame cathedral pictured above is beautiful both outside and inside.

I am looking forward to the ICPE program and also looking forward to meeting up with friends and making new friends. The enthusiasm of new students for our discipline of pharmacoepidemiology is catching and it is great to see the society doing everything they can to help the new students feel at home and learn from those of us who have been around for a while.

I doubt that I will have time (I have read the program) to update this during the conference but will update the blog when I return to the UK

I am writing this from St Mawes in Cornwall. For those who don’t know where that is, it is on the Roseland Peninsula which is a truly beautiful part of Cornwall with wonderful views wherever you look. The weather is very “Cornish” which means a mix of real and liquid Cornish sunshine. The view in the photograph is of St Mawes Harbour.

It has been nearly a year since Wise Pharmacovigilance and Risk Management was started. It has been a very successful year with a number of different clients providing  me with a wide range of different opportunities. I have enjoyed the breadth of different projects I have worked on and have been more in demand than I had anticipated.  I have also had to learn some new skills – including solving my own IT problems!

As I reflect back on the year, it has also been a year where I have had the opportunity to re-connect with a lot of people.  I had hoped that this new venture would bring a bit more balance to my life and I think that has in large part happened as I reconnect with friends from inside and outside of the work context.

I wrote my first blog post from ICPE in Dublin and now we are looking forward to ICPE in Montreal – a time to meet old friends and make new ones! I hope I will see a number of my blog readers there.
